FAQs
We'd really like to meet with you. What's the next step?
Please call me on 0412 810 305 or email me at triciakarpcelebrant@gmail.com to find out if I’m available for your wedding date. I’ll be in touch within 24 hours, and if I am available we’ll organise a time to catch up for a chat, either over phone or zoom. I’m available to speak during the day and after hours. Our first chat is a chance to get to know one another, for me to find out more about your ideas for your wedding ceremony, toss around ideas and talk about the process of working together. If you decide you’d like to book me as your celebrant I’ll send you an invoice so you can pay the booking fee to secure your date.
Do you travel outside Melbourne?
Yes! I’ll happily travel wherever you need me. As an authorised marriage celebrant I’m able to officiate weddings for couples Australia-wide. Please get in touch to discuss my availability and travel arrangements.
What are the legal requirements for getting married?
- Both parties must be at least 18 years old (with the exception of Section 12 from the Marriage Act 1961)
- You’re required to have two witnesses who are at least 18 years-old at your wedding ceremony to sign the certificates and register
- A Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) form must be lodged with your celebrant between 1 month and 18 months before your ceremony
- You’ll need to provide your celebrant with your original ID (passport or drivers licence and birth certificate)
- If you’re divorced or widowed you need to provide original documentation as proof that you’re free to get married (ie divorce or death certificate)
What's your celebrant fee?
I don’t have standardised pricing except for my Truly Intimate Weddings in Fitzroy Gardens. All other weddings are bespoke – no two weddings are the same. Factors such as the time of year, what you want to include, and location are all taken into account. I’ll provide a quote for you after we’ve had a conversation.
I've found a celebrant who costs less. Are your prices negotiable?
The lowest price doesn’t equate with the best quality and service. I always recommend not making a decision about a celebrant based on price alone (see my video about that here). I offer many, many years of professional writing and speaking experience and take a lot of pride in offering outstanding quality and service. My pricing is firm.
Can we personalise our wedding content?
Absolutely! I only create personalised wedding ceremonies. If you know what you’d like to include please tell me all about it. If you’re not sure I have lots of resources to help guide you. We’ll work together to craft a ceremony that’s 100% you.
How long does a wedding ceremony usually go for?
Most civil marriage ceremonies run for 10-20 minutes with another 5 or so minutes to sign the register and certificates. Your ceremony might be shorter or longer depending on what you decide to include. A good guide is allowing 30 minutes from start to finish, which includes the processional (walking down the aisle) until the recessional (walking back down the aisle at the end of the ceremony).
Do you bring your own equipment?
Yes. I bring a professional PA system with microphones.
Do I need a translator if my fiance/fiancee doesn't speak English?
Yes. If either of you or your witnesses doesn’t speak English please let me know as an accredited translator will need to be booked for your wedding.
How do I change my name after my wedding?
Once your marriage is registered (about 4 weeks after your wedding) you can use your Official Marriage Certificate to legally change your name on your passport, drivers licence, bank and utilities accounts. You don’t need to apply to change your name, you can simply take your Official Marriage Certificate to the relevant organisations and show it to them. You can use your new name anywhere else straight after you’re married (eg on social media) if you want to.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. I have professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
Can you recommend other wedding suppliers that we can trust?
I sure can! Having worked in the wedding industry as an event manager and planner I have a lot of contacts with suppliers I know and trust. Recommendations always make the planning process so much easier and create a lot less stress. Assuming you’ve already booked your venue (although I can make recommendations for venues too), I can provide you with recommendations for photographers, videographers, DJs, florists, hair and make up artists, cake makers, musicians, stylists and any other supplier you need for your wedding day. They are all reasonably priced and exceptional at what they do.
